Hekla Katharína Kristinsdóttir was born the 26th of August 1990. As far as she can remember she has always been fascinated by the Icelandic horse. Hekla has many competition titles from her youth as well as being the winner in young riders class on Landsmót riding Tara from Lækjarbotnar. In 2011 Hekla became the young riders world champion in four gait riding Gautrekur from Torfastaðir. An event she considers one of her most remarkable. In her first year competing as adult in she won combined four gait riding Vígar from Skarð in the Icelandic championship.
Hekla grew up on a farm where horses were used in daily work on the farm, such as sheep gathering. Her first experience showing horses was when she was 6 years old showing Fána from Hali in an overview. Since then she has showed quite a few horses, amongst whom are Hringur frá Skarði (Ae 8,48), Gídeon from Lækjarbotnar (Ae 8,29) and Framför frá Skarði (Ae 8.29)
Hekla graduated from Háskólinn á Hólum in 2012 as a riding teacher. She graduated with the years highest average as well as highest grade for teaching. The autumn after her graduation she started teaching in Hólar where she gained even more experience and insights into teaching.
Hekla now lives and works on her family’s farm Árbæjarhjáleiga. There she works with their horses, as well as teaching both in Iceland and abroad.
